There have been a number of cases of defective knee implant particularly by Zimmer.

Since 2003, about more than 150,000 Zimmer Knee implants have been sold in the market. However, a considerable number of patients, after a few years of implantation, have experienced a significantly high rate of failure involving the knee. As a matter of fact, the reports on the high failure rate of Zimmer hipreplacement system comes to as high as 9%; quite an unacceptable figure in the industry
